Druide Raises $84,000 for the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie
Druide informatique and its subsidiary Éditions Druide recently held their twelfth annual golf classic for the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie. The event and the campaign that followed raised $84,000, bringing the total amount donated to the foundation since the Druide Classic’s inception to over $500,000.
The money collected this year will go toward supporting the foundation’s school canteen programs in Mali and Benin. These canteens provide hot, balanced meals throughout the academic year to students in need at four elementary schools, and the whole community reaps the benefits: The programs have created close to twenty jobs and use food sourced locally from another project promoting small-scale farming and community gardening.
Druide boosted the sum by pledging to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $30,000. The company thereby marked its 30th anniversary—with special thanks to the entire Druide community for their backing—by further strengthening its support for these villages and their inhabitants, who share the French language.
The Classic concluded with a lovely dinner showcasing Dunord, winner of the 2023 Druide Grand Prize for Entrepreneurship. Founder Jonathan Dumas introduced the 150 or so guests to a new kind of dish: Dunord takes surplus produce from local farms and uses it to make dehydrated meals as a practical solution for reducing food waste. These meal pouches cook up quickly with a little water to create an affordable, easy-to-make and eco-friendly dish.
The Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie’s mission is to promote children’s education and adult literacy in the French-speaking world’s poorest countries. The foundation works to raise awareness of international realities among young Canadians. In Quebec, the foundation is best known for the Dictée P.G.L. Elsewhere, it is recognized primarily for its sponsorship programs, its Éducateurs sans frontières project, and its schools.
