Antidote 10, At Your Service
Druide informatique, celebrating its 25th birthday this year, is launching Antidote 10, a major new edition of its renowned software application. Along with 120 new features in French and English, the corrector now helps to make texts more inclusive and more readable. The dictionaries bring the two languages together by providing translations for 2.5 million words and expressions. Users also have the optional advantage of a new service, via which their personal dictionaries can be synchronized across several devices.
Antidote 10's correction function includes two brand-new, innovative filters. The gender neutrality filter detects elements which require attention to ensure an equal representation of men and women in your text, for example where names of professions are used. Eleven new articles in the guides demonstrate how this feature helps to respect the diversity of readers, without weighing down the text. The Antidote index readability filter gives a score between zero (hardly readable) and 100 (very readable). It also underlines elements in the text which could be edited to improve the score, such as long words and sentences, rare or foreign words, abbreviations and nested phrases.
Close to a thousand new French words and expressions have been added, such as cuichette, inclusivité and sociofinancement, as well as 10,000 synonyms and 28,000 combinations. The synonym lists are now sorted by proximity with the headword, giving quick access to the most relevant alternatives. Proverbs can be searched by theme, for example love, money or power. The new favourites window allows word lists and article lists to be created and shared. The new, optional Antidote Total Access service allows users to synchronize their data across all devices they have equipped with Antidote 10: changes made on one device will be found on all others.
Antidote 9 opened a new dimension to its users by offering English tools on a par with those available for French. Antidote 10 goes even further by forging links between the two languages. The definitions dictionary displays more than 800,000 translations for all words, expressions and proverbs, covering every nuance of the meaning. In addition, 1.7 million combinations have been translated from French to English and from English to French – a real tour de force. Finally, the articles in the guides boast a revised, cleaner presentation, and now allow easy access to their equivalents in the other language.
In English, the corrector benefits from the same improvements as the French version, with the added advantage of 3,500 detections for awkward constructions. More than 8,000 new words and expressions have been added in English, such as binge-watch, facticide and hoverboard, as well as 117,000 synonyms and 25,000 combinations. With 125,000 opposite senses, the dictionary of antonyms completes the panoply of English dictionaries. The English guides now contain nearly 500 articles.
Antidote 10 can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux and retails at $129.95. Users can choose the language (French or English) for their Antidote when it is downloaded; the other language can be added at the same time, or later. Owners of a previous edition can upgrade one language module for $59 or upgrade both languages at the same time for $99. Full details are available at antidote.info.
