Druide Raises $41,000 for the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie
This week, Druide informatique and its subsidiary Éditions Druide held their ninth annual Golf Classic for the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie. The event raised $41,000, bringing the total contributions to the foundation to more than $350,000 since the Druide Classic began in 2009.
The money donated this year will allow the foundation to support the three school canteens it established in some of Mali’s most food-scarce communities. Each canteen is run by a committee of women from the region who oversee the purchase of local food, thereby contributing to economic development in the area. They also manage the preparation and distribution of meals to the pupils. In addition, the program promotes gender equality by inviting parents to send both their sons and their daughters to school, as education is often inaccessible to girls.
The day ended with a pleasant dinner during which Sollum Technologies, winner of Druide’s 2017 Grand Prize for Entrepreneurship, was honoured. Its president, Louis Brun, was given the opportunity to demonstrate, before 150 guests, how his innovative technology perfectly replicates sunlight. The programmable LED lighting system is capable of imitating every aspect of natural light—including luminosity, intensity and temperature—at any time of the day. Thus, greenhouses and livestock farms can substantially increase the growth rate and quality of their products.
Druide would like to thank all of the participants and donors who once again contributed to the success of this year’s event. The tenth edition of the Druide Classic is announced for June 5, 2018, at the Saint-Raphaël golf club on Île-Bizard.
The Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie’s mission is to promote children’s education and adult literacy in the world’s poorest French-speaking countries. Its second goal is to raise awareness among young Canadians to international realities. In Quebec, the foundation is best known for La Dictée P.G.L. Elsewhere, it is renowned for its sponsorship program, its educators without borders and its schools.
Druide informatique produces and markets Antidote, the most complete writing assistance software suite available for English and French, as well as Typing Pal, the renowned typing tutorial application. The company is also the creator of WebElixir, a quality assurance service for websites, while its subsidiary, Éditions Druide, specializes in the publication of French-language literature and reference works.
