At the Coupe Charade finals, held Monday at Club Soda, Joëlle Paré-Beaulieu was presented the Antidote Cup for her performances over the 2023 season. Sponsored by Druide informatique, this award recognizes adept use of the French language during the spirited matches organized by the improvisational comedy theatre company Théâtre de la Ligue Nationale d’Improvisation (LNI).
The Antidote Cup was created in honour of Yvon Leduc, co-founder of the LNI and a passionate advocate for the French language, who inspired generations of improv artists throughout the French-speaking world. At the end of each match, a star is awarded to the player who was most proficient in their use of French; at the end of the season, the person who scored the most stars takes home the cup. During the 2023 season, Joëlle Paré-Beaulieu was awarded an Antidote star for three of the five regular-season matches in which she played.
This second Antidote Cup is the latest addition to the performer’s long list of achievements, alongside the 2015 and 2022 Coupes Charade, as a member of the top team in the LNI; three Marcel-Sabourin trophies, for being voted most popular among her peers; and the Beaujeu trophy, as the 2018 season All-Star. She appears in the television series 5e rang (Radio-Canada) and Chouchou (Noovo). She was a Prix Gémeaux nominee for her performances in the web series Souper de filles and La pratique du loisir au Canada. Joëlle’s film credits include Julie Hivon's Qu’est-ce qu’on fait ici?, for which she was nominated Best Actress at the 2015 Québec Cinema Awards, and La femme de mon frère, director Monia Chokri’s first feature film.
The Théâtre de la LNI—a performance laboratory and a leading Québec theatre company—is dedicated to exploring, producing and promoting theatrical improvisation. In addition to its Coupe Charade matches, tours and other productions, the LNI hosts workshops, courses and shows for both schools and businesses. Its activities are attended by nearly 50,000 people annually.
